Mrs. Kate Rout Stafford, 84, died shortly after 11 p.m. Friday at the home of Mrs. Roy Wilson in Crawfordsville where she had been residing. Born Feb. 7, 1882, in Bedford, Ind., she was the daughter of Lewis and Florence Embree Rout. She married Jeffie Stanley Stafford on Sept. 23, 1902, in Bedford. He preceded his wife in death on July 3, 1946. The couple moved to Crawfordsville in 1916. Mrs.. Stafford was a member of the First Christian Church of Crawfordsville. Survivors include a son, Lewis Stafford of the Stafford Candy Co. of Crawfordsville; two brothers, Embree Rout of West Monroe, La., and Owen Rout of Bedford; three grandchildren, Mrs. Larry Delks of Crawfordsville, Forest M. Cummings of Dallas, Tex., and Frank S. Stafford of Glendora, Calif., and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Stafford was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Cummings; a son, Frank S. Stafford, and a brother, Charles Rout. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Bright Funeral Home with Rev. Howard F. Miller in charge. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery.
